“Let the little
children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to
such as these.” Mark 10: 15
No food at the Inn, no presents under the
tree! That’s the scene we found last December at the Brazos de Amor
Children’s home in Agua Prieta, Mexico. There was very little food in the
pantry and only a few gifts under the tree, too few for over twenty children.
The propane tanks used for cooking, heating water and keeping their homes warm
were nearly empty.
Several quick emotion filled phone calls to my friend and Vice
President of Concern International Dave DeVries and others who are passionate
about the orphanage set the wheels of compassion, love and generosity into
motion. After posting on Facebook, Twitter and the Web Page things really started
happening. In Mexico I started getting your phone calls and e-mails! “I
want to pledge $100 for food,” “We as a family will buy presents for 2, 4 or 6
children ,” “Have a propane tank filled and send us the bill.”
Your response and generosity were amazing! In one short week you
provided presents for every child and staff member, you filled the pantry and
freezers with food and filled every propane tank on the compound. As God’s
children and faithful servants you came through in a BIG WAY! I want to
continue expressing our thanks for your generous contribution for these
precious children.
Because of your actions last Christmas, and the opportunity to visit
Mexico this past June, there are two churches in Grand Rapids, Michigan making
sure that there are presents under the tree this Christmas. They are
collecting gifts of a sweat suit, socks, underwear, a toy and a goody bag for
everyone at the Children’s Home.
